The Metro is a long, winding underground ribbon that snakes around the city, like a wispy thread of Ariane on wheels, carrying millions of individuals. The metro is a natural barometer of what’s happening on the street. The music one hears on the Metro lends a rhythm, in an almost symbolic way for the passengers, to each section of the day and the direction they are leading to.
I decided to do this project on the spur of the moment during my stay in Paris. All I can say is that this theme gave me the opportunity to taste the real life of Paris and understand how people manage to live in such a busy and crowded city.

The aim of this project was to find what people were doing during their short trips. Moreover, I was really excited when I discovered what people were dreaming at, what they were doing and how they felt at that moment. What surprised me was the fact that they always had something to do, especially their addiction to books. As a rule, as soon as they were seated, they avidly plunged into a novel that they had been devouring passionately, thus forgetting the time spent on transportation, their immediate surrounding, and often the station at which they were supposed to get off. Their eyes fixed, we watch from a distance as they mutter to themselves while the doors of the train slam shut and it becomes obvious that it is too late to change a destiny bent on carrying them further on the tracks. Occasionally, glowing with happiness at this unexpected opportunity, they reseat themselves and, acting as if the next connecting station were light years away, plunge back into the book with a discreet smile in the corner of their lips.

This underground life gave me the opportunity to capture some special moments of the Parisians and helped me understand better human nature.
